GSG Welcomes Totality Biosciences as a New ETS Member

The Global Stewardship Group welcomes Totality Biosciences as a new Excellence Through Stewardship Program member.

Founded in 2025 and headquartered in Berkeley, California, Totality Biosciences engineers genetically modified plants to produce complex human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs)—bioactive sugars naturally found in human breast milk with important prebiotic and immunemodulating functions. The company’s synthetic biology platform seeks to unlock the full spectrum of HMOs at agricultural scale and vastly lower costs compared with traditional fermentation methods, potentially making these beneficial compounds more widely accessible for infant nutrition and broader health applications. Totality aims to demonstrate plant production of specific HMOs such as 2fucosyllactose in soybeans, with future goals of expanding to more structures and diverse uses beyond baby formula.
